What Is Reiki Energy Healing?
Reiki energy healing has been around for thousands of years.
Everything in the universe is created from energy, and this energy is in a constant state of vibration. Energy is continuously flowing through you, and the level at which it’s vibrating is changing all the time.
This amazing energy is seen as different colours., and can give a good indication to your state of health and wellbeing.
The idea that healing the body by realigning disturbed or blocked energy goes way back to ancient times, well before modern medicine!
There are many different types of energy healing including faith healing and acupuncture, but reiki is the one we’re focusing on today.
The name reiki comes from two different words. Rei meaning a non physical entity of a higher intelligence. This entity guides the universe and every living thing in it.
This intelligence is known as God, and we turn to it in times of need and desperation. Rei can also be thought of as angels, or spirit guides.
Reiki masters use this energy in healing sessions, and many believe there is no need to worry about what part of the body to send healing to, as it goes to where it’s needed.
Ki refers to energy, and this energy in people is affected by thoughts and emotions. If you’re feeling angry or depressed, your energy will be at a lower state. This negativity causes blocks in your energy flow.
The idea that your state of mind affects your health is now accepted in Western medicine. Many doctors now recognise the link between the mind and physical illness.
Have you ever found you more likely to catch a cold if you’re feeling depressed or run down
The mind and body are so closely linked, that every cell in the body is affected by your thoughts. It takes 2 months for a cell to be replaced, so it may take a while to renew all your cells with a positive attitude
Although reiki healing techniques have been around for thousands of years, it was only in fairly recent times that Mrs Hawayo Takata brought reiki healing over to the West. Many students were taught by her, and this knowledge is being on passed on today in reiki classes and healing centres.
There is a ton of information online about the history of reiki if you’re interested, and you only have to search on Google.
What happens during a reiki energy healing session?
Before a session with a client the practitioner will sit quietly meditating and maybe visualising healing energy flowing through them. A good practitioner will practice giving reiki to themselves every day.
This is vital in keeping their energy healthy and balanced. In fact anyone can practice self reiki once they’ve been taught. It doesn’t have to take up much time.
Asking for spirit guidance to direct Reiki healing energy to where it’s needed is done by the practitioner before starting work.
Placing the hands above the client who is lying on a treatment table and starting at the head end, they gradually work down the body. The practitioner will either touch the body or work with their hands raised above the body.
Reiki healing energy can be felt as a warm sensation around the affected area being treated. The person giving reiki may feel their hands tingle or feel warm as the energy flows through them. Some even claim they see colours or images in their mind’s eye.
When I did a reiki course a few years ago I would close my eyes and visualise a white beam of healing light passing through my hands into the client. Visualising damaged cells being healed and returning to their normal state can have a very powerful effect.
The person receiving it may also experience the same warm tingly sensation. This is the healing energy doing its work.
At the end of the session, the Reiki practioner gives thanks to the spirit guides.
Distance healing reiki
Reiki healing can be done remotely without being in physical contact with the person receiving it. It works on the idea that all energy in the universe is connected, and that using the power of thought and visualisation you can send healing where needed.
I have never practiced Reiki for money, and only ever tried my skills on a few friends and pets. I didn’t take my training to the level required level for practicing on people, and admit I have been guilty of not practicing regularly.
However, I have found it to be very calming and felt a warmth from my hands when treating an affected area on my body. Whether you decide to take courses in Reiki, or just try a few sessions by a Reiki master you’ll definitely find plenty of benefits.
One thing I do recommend though is if you decide to learn Reiki, you find a good teacher who herself has had excellent training.
I’ve seen online courses advertised, and while they may be a good introduction to Reiki energy healing, you need to be in an environment where you’re learning and working in a group.
So if you’re looking for Reiki as a way to heal both physical and emotional problems then I would definitely say give it a go.
You don’t have to be religious or spiritual to benefit from its healing power.
How do you find a Reiki healing practitioner?
Just like any other trade or profession you get good and bad.
When looking for a Reiki practitioner don’t just take the first one you see advertised in your area. There are different levels a student needs to reach before considering using their skills on fee paying clients. It’s a skill that requires constant daily practice on themselves.
You also want someone with plenty of experience. Certificates are fine, but they’re not recognised in the same way as other educational training qualifications.
Sometimes word of mouth from a friend or someone who works in a related area such as acupuncture, reflexology, or acupressure is a good to way to get trusted referrals.
You could also just do a search online and see what comes up.
Pay attention to any testimonials.
There are many books available on Reiki energy healing if you want to study it in depth.
The benefits of Reiki
The benefits of Reiki are many. Not just physical, but mental and spiritual. It removes energy blocks that may be causing symptoms within the body. It releases stress, tension, and harmonises the balance between mind, body, and spirit. Problems sleeping can be eased, as you find yourself in a calmer and more peaceful state.
The body has it’s own ability to heal naturally, and Reiki helps boost this incredible healing force.
Emotionally speaking, Reiki can help heal upsets such as a break up, lessen feelings of anger, or frustration, and strengthen your empathy with others.
The benefits are felt by both the person giving Reiki and those who receive it. There is absolutely no age limit on who can use Reiki. From tiny babies to the frail and elderly can all receive reiki, as well as animals and plants.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and that it’s inspired you to give Reiki a try.
