Do Positive Affirmations Work?

Do Positive Affirmations Work

do positive affirmations work

Positive affirmations to improve your life have become very popular, and using them in the right way can bring amazing results.

Affirmations are simply words repeated regularly to alter your thought pattern. These are normally positive affirmations to help attract success, wealth and happiness into your life.

The idea is that by saying these words and phrases over and over, you reprogram your subconscious mind and change not only your thought pattern, but also your outcomes. You can use them to help you achieve your goals and ultimate success.

This can work perfectly if the core beliefs about yourself are positive. However if they’re negative you’ll create conflict between your conscious and subconscious mind.

As a result you may end up feeling worse, with a lot of tension in your body. Back ache, stiff neck and shoulders can all be created from the stress of trying to force your subconscious to accept new beliefs.

So what is the solution?

One of the ways you can tackle this problem is to be mindful of the way you talk not only to yourself, but also to other people.

Why mindfulness is so powerful

happy affirmations

All self talk and the words you speak are affirmations. Unfortunately for the majority of people some of it is negative. People suffering from depression are likely to have a high amount of negative self talk.

If you want to use affirmations effectively you’ll need to deal with any underlying negative beliefs
first.

Practicing mindfulness allows you to take control of your thoughts and change your inner dialogue. After a while you’ll find the way you talk to your friends and family will change as well. This can have a profound effect and supercharge your daily affirmations to a whole new level!

Why the subconscious mind is so powerful

All our decisions and rational thinking take place in the conscious mind. However the subconscious mind is far more powerful. It can serve to sabotage your actions, and does not understand negative commands.

So for example if you continually say “I don’t want to be in debt”, your subconscious only recognizes “in debt” You may try to avoid debt, but may find yourself making bad financial decisions.

A better approach is to create affirmations in the present tense as if what you want is already here.

So instead of saying “I don’t want to be in debt” you may say “money flows into my bank account”

The power of neutral affirmations

neutral affirmations

Neutral affirmations are a highly effective way of getting results without any pressure. They allow you to acknowledge where you are now, and let you move forward at your own pace.

For example “I’m not always confident but working on building my self confidence every day”, or “I am trying to accept myself as I am, and learning to love myself more”

Taking away the pressure allows you to relax, and not feel disappointed if it takes longer to reach where you want to be.

Over time, new neural pathways are formed, replacing old ways of thinking with new beliefs.

Once these beliefs are laid down in the subconscious your attitude and reaction to things will change in a positive way.

If you’re feeling upbeat and happy you are in a higher state of vibration. You will make better decisions, and attract positive situations in your life.

Why affirmations work

our life experiences and decisions you make are based on affirmations. If they are negative then you may end up making poor life choices, or missing out on opportunities.

I speak from experience on this but know now that I can change my path and present circumstances just by changing my thought pattern.

Most beliefs we have about ourselves are laid down in childhood. If you were constantly told you were stupid or ugly then this will stay with you into adulthood. You may look in the mirror and see a pretty face looking back, but inside you feel worthless.

You may be kind and giving, but you still feel unworthy. This is why it’s so important to work on your underlying beliefs before using affirmations as they’ll always cause conflict.

Chanting words without any emotion and no driving force won’t work either.

If you keep repeating “money is flowing into my bank account”, with no passion or drive, then nothing will happen. You must really have an emotional attachment to whatever it is you want to affirm.

Once you’ve identified what you want and cleared all negative blocks then you’ll find affirmations are a really powerful tool.

If you keep telling yourself something over and over again multiple times a day you will start to believe it, even if it’s not true yet. Providing as I mentioned before your core beliefs don’t contradict it.

Tailor affirmations to fit in with your goals, and the more specific you are, the better.

How to supercharge affirmations!

positive affirmation

Showing gratitude for what you already have is a great way to add power to your affirmations. It raises your >vibrational frequency which is extremely powerful! You start to attract more of the good things in your life, and your subconscious is more likely to accept your affirmations far quicker.

Feel the emotion as if what you desire is already in your life. Happiness, excitement and love are emotions you may feel if you’ve already reached your goal. Being financially free may make you feel calm and content. As long as you can attach an emotion to your affirmation you will add power to it.

Visualization is a very powerful tool and seeing yourself with your intended goal as if it’s yours now will add even more power!

I’ve even heard of people photocopying old payment cheques and superimposing the desired amount they want to make over the original figure. Printing it out and keeping it near the computer where it can be seen will send powerful messages to the subconscious.

Always remember you must clear any mental blocks first before using affirmations, as it’s vital you believe in your ability to achieve your goals and dreams.
