Make a blueberry fruit smoothie first thing in the morning to help keep you focused and alert all day. You could also sprinkle a few on your breakfast cereal with slices of banana.

Wholegrain foods release glucose gradually into the bloodstream, keeping you mentally alert. Opt for wholegrain breakfast cereal, and wholemeal bread. Oily fish including salmon and mackerel are a good source of omega 3 essential for brain health. If you don’t eat fish you can also find omega 3 in pumpkin seeds, soya bean oil, and walnuts.

Neuroscientists have discovered that stress can destroy neurons in the brain, however the brain also has amazing power to repair itself. So even if you’re a chronic worrier or have taken drugs, smoked or been a heavy drinker you can reverse the damage done to your brain.

This shows just how powerful your mind is. The truth is most people only use around 10% of their brain but you can increase it’s power with some simple techniques.

How to stop information overload

With so much information constantly bombarding us daily it’s no wonder you find it hard to recall names or what you said to your work colleague yesterday. Most of us have laptops, smart phones or tablets, so we have access to news 24/7. Checking facebook, emails and twitter feeds adds to this constant input. So how can you avoid information overload?

One of the best ways is to allow yourself some quality time to yourself each day and switch off all distractions. I know you’re busy and you may have a spouse, demanding children or pets, all wanting your attention. However make a rule that for 20 minutes of the day you are not to be disturbed. Spend this time just relaxing.

Play your favourite music, read a book, or just sit quietly. As you’re relaxing breathe in deeply and become aware of your breath. Calm down your mind by slowing down your thoughts. You can’t stop them entering your head, but by observing them as an outsider and becoming detached from them, they will naturally slow down. This is like pressing the reset button in the brain!

Just doing this for 10 or 20 minutes a day will help you regain focus and you will feel much calmer after a stressful day. Taking time to relax isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. You will lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of stress related symptoms.

Sharpen your focus and concentration.

Do you find yourself losing focus and find it hard to concentrate? This is commonly experienced if you try and do too many things at once. Being a woman I’m supposed to be able to multi-task, but afraid this is a myth! The human brain can only focus on one thing at a time, and attempting to bend this rule won’t end well. Have you ever tried watching tv while writing a report, or doing some important research online? I know I have in the past with poor results.

A good way to boost concentration is simply eliminate all outside distractions. Working from home is challenging as you will get unexpected phone calls or friends dropping by to see you. You have to be firm and make people realise that just because you work from home doesn’t mean you can spend time socialising. You wouldn’t drop everything to entertain a friend if you worked in an office.

Sharpen your focus by starting the day with 1o minutes of guided meditation. This is one of the best ways to clear the mind of clutter and become laser focused on the days tasks. Hopefully you wouldn’t work at a cluttered desk, so nor should you work with a cluttered mind:)

Lighten your mood and boost your mind power

NO matter ho bad you feel inside, try smiling. You may think this is mad, but just making a false smile will send signals to your brain that you’re in a happy mood. Your brain can’t tell the difference between a fake or real smile. You’ll get exactly the same benefits which is to release endorphins, a natural pain killer, and serotonin the feel good hormone. You will naturally reduce stress, boost your immune system, and lower blood pressure as well.

You can improve your mind power and raise your vibration simply by smiling. This will help rewire your brain into sending positive thoughts instead of negative. Over time smiling will become a habit. You’ll also make those around you feel happy as smiling is contageous.

Use your mind power to attract success!

Your subconscious can’t tell the difference between what is real and what isn’t. It accepts whatever you feed into it and will act accordingly. If you want a new car but keep telling yourself you won’t ever be able to afford it then you’ll get more of the same.

Using the power of your mind to visualize yourself driving the make and model of the car constantly then you’ll attract opportunities and people into your life that will help you reach your goal.

It helps to create a vision board filled with images of your desired goal.

If you imagine yourself catching a cold you can actually end up with a cold, the mind is that powerful. Stress can also disable the body’s ability to repair itself. Boost your body’s ability to fight infection by laughing more. The old saying that laughter is the best medicine is really true. Watch a favourite funny film or comedy show on tv. Meet up with a friend and laugh over old times.

If you’re not feeling well, try the following exercise. Close your eyes, and imagine a beam of white healing light entering your body. Breathe in deeply and feel it’s healing energy. You need to sit somewhere quietly to really get the benefit from this, and ideally take plenty of time to visualize this powerful energy.
