Brainwave entrainment is simply syncing your brainwave frequencies using an auditory sound or light.
This can be used to produce feelings of calmness, make you more alert, help you study, help you sleep, or simply use it to chill out for an hour or so.
Your brainwaves are constantly changing, depending or your mood or activity. The slower your brainwaves the more relaxed you are. The slowest frequencies are in the delta spectrum, and these are experienced during deep sleep. Beta brainwaves are in the highest frequencies, and are experienced when you’re concentrating on something. Very high beta frequencies are associated with stress.
There are several different types of brainwave entrainment. Monaural beats are a single pulsing sound usually embedded in music. They are a convergence of 2 separate tones. Isochronic tones are regular pulses of a single beat. You don’t need headphones for either monaural or isochronic tones.
Binaural beats are created in the brain as the result of 2 tones of different frequencies being played one in each ear. You need headphones to get the effect. The auditory beat is the difference between the 2 tones.
